This past summer 2012, Dean Newberry, owner of Talbott Solar and Radiant Homes accepted his invitation to attended the ICO-TC205 International Plenary, an invitation-only conference on heating and cooling in La Rochelle, France. From September 4-7, radiant heating and cooling experts from all around the world gathered at the prestigious Université de la Rochelle to discuss pressing issues regarding the standardization on radiant panel systems.

Just minutes from the beautiful French coastline, this group of nearly 50 world experts on heating and cooling, including Newberry, partook in a serious of organized conferences and workshops where ideas, proposals, and inventions were shared.  Amongst the esteemed guest list was the influential and talented Kwang Woo Kim, Professor of Architecture at Seoul National University that played a leading role in the plenary’s organization.

Newberry’s involvement in the conference was interactive and advantageous, as he was given the opportunity to share his newly patented invention, xLath ™ to an international body of experts.  Newberry’s heating and cooling module’s simple design was noticed by several of the attendees, which proposed various potential international heating and cooling projects that xLath ™ could be used for in the future. Furthermore, Dean may take on a significant task of helping a radiant expert translate a radiant heating and cooling handbook into English.

Before flying back home, Dean took France’s esteemed rapid train (TGV) back into Paris, where he was able to relax and enjoy the sites of Paris with Stephanie, Talbott’s Marketing Coordinator.

Since the conference, Newberry has kept in close contact with many of the experts that he met in La Rochelle, and hopes to continue to build these relationships in order to facilitate a healthy exchange of knowledge from the world’s finest heating and cooling experts. It is not everyday that a CEO from a local solar company in Davis, California has the honor of being part of the world’s heating and cooling experts committee, let alone serve as a representative of our small, yet influential town against the beautiful French landscape.

Talbott Solar and Radiant Homes Inc. has and will continue to benefit from Newberry’s involvement in this international conference. As a team member, I must add a personal note: I congratulate Dean for demonstrating his dedication to his company by flying 5,661 miles to
(Stephanie and Dean at

network with other like-minded professionals to furthermore take on the responsibility of playing a key role in what will soon be an international standardized code for radiant heating and cooling.
